At our company we have an attendance policy, and if you takes days off that you don’t have, your pretty much hosed after about three occurrences (yes, I know about FMLA, etc., etc., etc.).
We had an employee who went to jail, missed way too many days, and thus got fired. This was hard for me to do, JailBird broke the rule, and he had to go. If I made an exception then the slippery slope would have just killed me later. The shop guys were angry. Understandably. The story goes that JailBird had a cop that wanted to bust him for something, and found some reason to throw him in the slam. He can’t make bail, the arraignment was at the end of the week, he was stuck.
