HR is progressing very fast. More and more companies are now looking for HR Managers to manage their human assets and their issues. More people are coming in the field. Institutes have also emerged from no where teaching different HR courses. All is good, for me at least. I chose the field five years back and here I am with a Masters degree, specialization in HR and four years experience. During this period I worked in two places and gained experience. At both of the places HR was a new born department. I faced resistance from old employees and from top management too. Resistance from top management as they do not understand the true nature of HR. Everyone has his own concept of Human Resource Management. At one place the top management used to forward every problem to HR whether it had a link with HR or not. Production is not up to the mark, problem comes to HR. Security cameras not working, and problem comes to HR. It was difficult to convince the people at the top that these problems were out of the scope of HR. At one place employees used to disregard HR and at first looked liked it would be impossible to create the HR department over there. In the absence of HR department, its responsibilities are shared by other departments. When HR is created people feel that HR is trying to reduce their authorities and as a result conflicts start rising. What they don’t know is that HR will actually benefit them. They would get an organized organizational structure with proper grading, proper pay structures, promotion plans and employee compensation and benefits plans etc. There is a need to increase awareness among employees in other departments, top people, owners and directors regarding HR.
It is one of the factor because of which job switching has raised among the HR professionals. In most of the cases the top management suddenly discovers that the solution to all their problems is in establishing an HR department. HR Manager is hired and the HR guy comes in. First of all he has double pressure on himself. He has to develop an HR department and for that he needs to design all the required formats and flowcharts of processes that fit to that organization. He also looks into problems that are urgent and need his attention and then comes the operational side of HR; recruitment, training, separation, evaluations, increments etc. All the key people start pushing him from all sides. Top management pressurizes him to show quick results. And the HR Person is left with confusion with what to do and what not to do.
HR students must also be taught that how to deal with these problems in professional life. Awareness should be increased among heads also. May be it could be a better approach to move a competent person from inside the organization into new HR department instead of hiring a new person. Services from an HR consultant could be taken to support the person. A consultant can suggest better solutions and would be more useful as he would not have any pressure on him from the top management and the employees. On this forum there are highly experienced people. I hope you will correct me if I am wrong some where and would also give your suggestions……..

if a person has done four years honors degree in hr do you think that he can compete well with others in the market and what are the chances of progress in hr?
Posted on 14. August 2008 at 22:13
hello! i wana answer maira that surely one can compete very well in the market with HR degree because i myself hold MBA degree with HR majors n working..the only issue is AWARENESS..one has to work hard bcz ppl r not very much aware of HR sytems..but there is alot more one can do with HR degree!
Posted on 18. August 2008 at 23:08
Its really good to see few coments on my post… Thanks alot! Asiya is very much right. There is a good market for HR Professinals in Pakistan these days but difficulties also come with the good packages and if you have four years experience then you can easily deal with the problems. HR has a bright scope.
Posted on 19. August 2008 at 04:36
A.A every degree possess its scope but the matter is this you should have skill in your degree.Every where skill is required and i think every degree had equal scope in its field. Now the decision depends on you.

salam to all. . . i would like to say that its a new emerging field n a develping country like pakistan because the human resours needs to develope…if any one wana share information he is most wellcome …
Posted on 26. October 2008 at 08:41
A.O.A I’ve gone through the article and views narrated above. I’m a HR speaker at Customs training& research DD FBR Islamabad. Being a research student of M.Phil (HRM), I think HRM is the name of paradigm shift in attitude. Shift from people management(administration) to paper management (HRM) needs a shift in traditional thought and attitude. U know attitude bears full 100 marks, according to a study. Until there is a radical change in national attitude, no substantial progress can be aspired.
As regards competing with the market, urge to excel lies inside a human u may name it motivation, learning tendency, or competetive advantage. thanks!

Personally i really like HR practices , i have a craze about it.. but as money factor is concerned , i hesitate selecting it as a career whereas if i persue ACCA (3 years) Training (2 years) and then CA (2 Years) wouldn’t it be a better option in terms of money or another Possiblity is that i do regular 4 year BBA , Training 2 years , and then MBA 2 Years….. (Either in Finance or Human Resources)
I realy dnt knw which path to select….. I am in a huge confusion would appreciate help from professional people like you…. I Am currently 19 Years of age. Including this year…..

Dear Hareem,
If you are really interested in HR then go for it. there are many opportunities for hr professional who are really skilled but the first thing is that you should know better if you really wanna be in this field or not?

Respected Samrah,
I really cant figure it out as i enjoy doing accounts yet i feel very enthusistic when HR is discussed ……… but the major dilemma that i am facing right now is that ….. i really dont knw which way to go? As everyone with whom i have discussed this issue told me to do where your intrest lies but for me it is not about my intrest it is about the pay the i will be getting in m thirties and early fourty. can u guide me by providing some factful information regarding this issue………………..

I believe that one can only make money in the field that he/she really enjoys. When you have the skills then there are companies who acknowledge the skills and pay good to deserving candidates in any field. HR is a big field and so is finance/Accounts. HR is groing so I think there is good potential. Now its up to you…. Just judge your traits and decide that you will be suitable for which field. But remember one thing, working hard is essential! Additionally if you will be doing bba from any of the mentioned universities then I think you should’nt worry about the money as the pass outs from these get good offers!
I really appreciate you that you wanna plan about your future and are so concerned about it at this early age. Good Luck!! But consider other factors too besides money… Sometimes good package is not just enough.
Hope my reply will clear your concerns.

It’s true that hr is a new market, a new philosophy in our traditional market. Although it has been practicing in Pakistan from lat twenty years but the trend of hr comes with a new shape in the Pakistani organization. Now not only the famous Pakistani companies adopting the hr policies and developing their hr departments in their organization but the local companies also have a keen interest in this area.
It’s true that when we bring a change in any walk of life then we face a resistance and it’s natural. Its good that people showing resistance it will make the hr manager’s job more easy and he will have more tools, more planning to satisfy not only the top management but also the targets that the development of hr policies and implementations of hr practice not only polish their skills but also increase their productivity and provide safeguard to their jobs….. change always face resistance but a good hr manager is one who create awareness for the change in the organization.

Posted on 8. November 2009 at 21:06
Yes, certainly, HR is progressing very fast. HR is about selecting rewarding and developing people to achieve goals
But I would like to say that HR is also about selecting the right people, judging which type of people are suitable where, why, etc.
HR is also about creating discipline in the right fashion without hurting the staff/without tampering the organisational image.
HR is also about guidance, even upto the TOP people, TOP mgmt.
Basically, it’s analysing and getting a correct judgment about an individual’s psychology, not only jugement, but studying the same and acting accordingly. That’s very important.
What else friends, all of you are much more experienced and knowledgeable.
You all share………….

Posted on 6. July 2010 at 14:32
AOA! i just complete Master of Human Resource Management from UMT Lahore, my point of view is that every company do something to manage their employees but most organizations don’t make it formal. The multinational organizations in pakistan is doing good practices of various funcations of HR, like HR planning, Staffing and also the new concept of Balance Scorecard.
for Ahmed dehraj plz don’t confuse about the future of HR, do u think in future the companies ignore their employees or don’t manage their performance. in future at operation level 80% of the HR funcation is moving toward outsourcing and inside of the company is more focuing on the startegic level……………

H R in Pakistan will take time to develop and flourish with all of its requirements, In Pakistan we are facing mainly Two types of employers, 1 ) Local companies known as Seth Organization 2) MNCs known as Foreign companies . Local Companies have set their own thinking (stereotype) but on the contrary HR itself a long history started approx. 1900 any way …
1) in local companies mostly HR linked with Administration and / or Compliances
2) in MNCs not as well, as we assumed.
As per as jobs concern, no. of companies invited job applications in HR , but as per as economic compensation, not attractive over all if compare with other known occupations.
In short those who are planning to get Master Degree etc.. can get job but in term of economic compensation will face some problem but future of HR in Pakistan will take time to flourish .

Your Answer “BBA(hons)is the best degree in pakistan.but it depends on you because it needs extra study too as compared to other degrees.now i m in seventh semester and i have joined the bank just for practise although they are offering me salary but i refused. i have also offered for job from NGO and gived me 48000 pkr salary but i refused. In short it depends on ur knowledge, skills and intelligence but with BBA(hons) do some extra short courses related to BBA(hons) like ms office, peachtree, tally and quick book i have done all of these. So do BBA(hons) ” is pending, you must confirm your email address first.

HRm decipline in fact in pakistan is emerging field but thier is a lot of room to get inside create and exploer the oppuertunities. you guys can make an awareness to the pepole and as well to the empolyers of the companies. i have HR experience in construction field. the empolyer really need a department which overcome the problem and crisis regrading Human asset but in fact they still confuse either give the much authority to Hr department or not. so its up to the HR professional how they have the capability to convince the empolyer about the importance of HRM. my dear HRM field have potential and our culture where the organization are going down, the time will come the empoyers will realized the importance of HRM.
thanks

It is so sad that the English and communications skills of the Pakistanis is so poor. It makes me ashamed to be a Pakistani. Hey guys, you are supposed to be HR professionals? So what hope do we have for the team you recruit and manage? God help Pakistan. That’s all the country has and ever had! Cause the lot of you are all losers.
Posted on 15. February 2011 at 19:33
Hi everybody.
Abbas: By the look of it, what you have said is very true as far as the English language and communication skills of the above commentators are concerned. It needs more working
I am however, much intrigued by the lack of any new HR experiences on the part of the above commentators. All i can see here is the only comments about the comparisons among various field of studies including HR and nothing else!!! The article against which these comments are still sprouting is itself written in 2008….., nothing new, How petty?!! I tried to find out some professional views/ experiences about the field of HR in general Pakistani context, which is still kind of unavailable on such portals.
Abbas, I wish if you could jump start in to share any of your own experiences with regard to HR Management at your organization, which would definitely add on some value to this platform.

As an HR proffessional,i would advise every one who is interested in opting for a career in HR to think twice. To begin with , we (Pakistan) doesn’t have many companies which means less jobs.Secondly a person having MBA HR or MS HR degree has almost no technical expertise
(in other words he/she is easily replacable ).More over degrees or experienced gained in Pakistan has no value to employers in developed countries.
Im in no way suggesting not go for HR but if some one wants to pursue career in HR, they should not rely on MBA HR or MS HR Degree alone. Look for certifications in HR

Salam to all,
i am also a HR professsional having MBA (HRM). i think HR Management / Department plays a roll of mother for workers in any organization. We are living in an under developed country and HR Concept for us is not so old. But this concept is grooming up very speedly in Pakistan and having bright future.
Posted on 17. November 2011 at 04:27
Asalam u Alaikum Friends……
there are many frndz who are confused in selecting specialization fields, see that in what you have interest go and select that field. Don’t ask others that what have scope and what field doesn’t. When you sepcialized your interest field then it will make itself scope as you will be satisfied with the work. So do what your interest is there.
Posted on 19. November 2011 at 11:55

Its a very good decision to join the field of HR in Pakistan as we need good talent. If you wanna know that how its like to work in HR, you can read my latest post: http://www.hrmtoday.com/featured-stories/stuck-in-hr/

Dear Amna,
Only you can decide that what would be better for you. You can do this after doing a little research about HR and then make a decision considering your interest. There is no degree such as MA in HR. You can do MBA or M.Sc in HR.
Posted on 31. January 2012 at 10:03
Dear Amna,
There is also Masters in HRM (Public Admin. deprt.) introduced by Karachi university two years back.
All the courses are specific to HR field (not only 3 or 4 majors as u study in MBA HR).
I have completed MHRM last year and working as Sr. HR Executive in textile organization.
I think there are lots of opportunities in every field. It depends on u if u have enthusiasim & skills to avail opportunities or not.
Posted on 17. February 2012 at 03:24
hi, now i got admission in hrm but still im confuse, had i taken good decision?
Posted on 30. March 2012 at 01:18
HRM system should be adopted or merged in every and each organization in public and private sectors in Pakistan because it is very effective to develop the organizations or department’s role or output.
Posted on 4. April 2012 at 09:42
Dear Sir,I have done my MBA in HR from NUML Islamabad. As you said that it is new field introducing in Pakistan and mostly Organizations are trying to open the HR Departments and hiring the HR Executives. But mostly advertisements announced demanding high job experience. How can we fulfill Organization’s requirements. So there must be relaxation about Job Experience requirements so that fresh HR graduates can get the chance to start their Career..
