Sick pay plan in addition to PTO

We are currently considering adding a seperate sick pay plan to our PTO program. The thought behind this is to offer something to soften the blow of insurance premuims increasing. Has anyone done this? How has it worked out? Does anyone offer both PTO and sick pay surrently? Thanks.
