Ever notice we pursue what we do not have? It is human. We want what we do not have. Advertising capitalizes on the our human fears of… Not being good enough. Not being liked/loved enough. Looking bad. I have played that game. I have done it. I am 38 years old on this journey called “life” and I have spent too much time… Trying to be something I am not. With the come of the new year I have been reading and thinking an awful lot about what the state of affairs will be like fo in 2009. If I were to sum up what I am finding (and thinking) in one sentence it would be this: HR needs to think and act more strategically if it wants to be taken seriously as a value adding business partner. If you are an executive or senior level manager in a publicly held organization, you should already know this, but just in case you forgot: Succession planning is a fiduciary responsibility to your Shareholders. Remember your Shareholders? That is right… the people who actually own your company and vote for the board of directors that decides if you get to keep your job or not. While succession planning does not make a lot of financial headlines, it can have a considerable impact on the value of your organization’s stock. Remember Management 101? Any time you get together with family, it can be quite stressful… In the Young household, Christmas Eve is when we celebrate. We also enjoy our own family tradition of having a feast that my wife, son, and daughter look forward to in the weeks ahead. Oh yeah…. And we open up presents!
